How QuiCK Transport LLC Turned Logistics into a Competitive Advantage
The Challenge: A Critical Space Bottleneck When a client contracted us to move 250 loads of pipe from Wisconsin to Texas, they faced a significant operational hurdle: lack of space. To stay ahead of the project timeline, they needed to purchase and pre-fabricate material, but their shop was already operating at maximum capacity.
The Solution: A Seamless Inbound & Outbound Hub QuiCK Transport provided more than just trucks; we acted as a strategic extension of their facility.
- Inbound Management: We served as the primary receiving point for outside vendors. Instead of clogging the customer’s yard, all pipe fittings and elbows were shipped directly to our facility, where we unloaded, staged, and tracked them until the fabrication shop was ready.
- Just-In-Time Delivery: As soon as the shop required specific components, we delivered them immediately. This kept the manufacturing facility clear and the yard flow optimized.
- The Trailer Pool Strategy: We maintained a continuous loop of equipment to keep production moving 24/7. This included 10 units at the client’s facility, 8–10 loaded trailers at our yard, 2–3 in transit, and 2 dropped at the destination. By swapping loaded trailers for empties instantly, we ensured the fabrication shop never had to pause due to space constraints.
Eliminating the High Cost of Texas Heat In Texas, 100-degree days are the norm, and unloading pipe can take six to eight hours. With standard detention fees at $75/hour after the first two hours, the client was looking at an extra $300 to $450 per load just for “sitting still.”
We eliminated these costs by implementing a drop-and-hook program at the Texas laydown yard. Our drivers simply dropped a full trailer and hooked to an empty—meaning no waiting, no downtime, and no $450 invoices.
The Results: $90,000 Saved in Detention Alone By acting as an efficiency partner rather than a traditional carrier, we saved the customer approximately $90,000 in detention fees over the course of the project. Beyond the direct financial savings, our management of their inbound inventory and space needs gave the client the room they needed to grow.
Total Project Value Added:
- Bulk Purchasing: Ability to pre-buy material at better price points.
- Production Efficiency: Zero interruptions in the manufacturing facility.
- Space Management: On-demand yard and manufacturing space when it mattered most.
- Inventory Control: Total peace of mind with organized, off-site inventory tracking.
- Equipment Availability: On-site trailers at the delivery point, ready for immediate return-product needs.
